Bulgaria and Romania joined the EU.

The European bloc is now expanded to 27 members, Bulgaria and Romania had a very beautiful gift for the New Year’s Eve and celebrated the arrival of 2007 by adhering to the European Union, in the Bulgarian capital the people celebrated two occasions by rising in the sky lots of balloons with “welcome Europe” written on them. “It is the most important day in our history” said the president of Bulgaria referring to january1st, 2007. The two countries seem to enjoy their new status as European members.

Passers by had different opinions, but the majority welcomed the news, some think Bulgaria and its neighbour country have to prove now they are able to be a European state, and can deal with EU partners. Another woman hoped the two countries will be successful in Europe and wished a happy new year for the whole world.

Some others in Romania couldn’t even believe they reached that step and became real Europeans, but the president Traian Basescu was there and confirmed by shouting to a huge crowd packing university square that Romania has finally became European.

Usually the EU is aiming to promote its economy, but it welcomes poor countries like Lithuania and Estonia while a nation with a huge economy like Turkey is still ignored. Why? Let’s EU officials give the answer.
