Violence in Sri Lanka.

In the last 24 hours, two police officers and an army soldier in addition to eight civilians were killed in incidents of violence that occurred in the east and the north. Analysts are optimistic for the future, diplomatic and political observers think with the help of authorities and efforts of the Sri lankan military, tigers could easily be ousted from the east, and violence in the next days is certainly going to soar especially with the dawn of the New Year and intensified efforts.

 

The SLA has already declared that it is determined to oust the Tigers from Vaharai, the last bastion of the LTTE in the east. According to the military, the operation to oust the Tigers from the region has slowed down due to the presence of a large number of civilians. According to estimates, there were 35,000 to 40,000 internally displaced people in Vaharai. The SLA maintains that over 25,000 have moved out of the Tiger-held areas and crossed over the government controlled areas in the last few weeks.

 A SLA officer said he was aware tigers are using civilians to reach their aims and hence the military, but it was just a matter of days to liberate the east from those tigers and get rid of their menace.
